Patient Information | Michael Durbin DDS MS Orthodontist

Now that your braces have been placed, it is important that you care for them properly. Your braces and the adhesive used to bond them to your teeth are very strong and are designed to withstand the normal wear and tear of chewing, They are not designed to withstand biting hard items, such as pen caps and ice, or sticky and chewy items such as gum and caramel. Please try to avoid those items that will break off the braces as breakage will lead to extended treatment time and an unsatisfactory result. If you are in doubt about what foods to eat, please refer to the "not to eat" sheet or contact our office.

It is also very important to brush your teeth 2-3 times per day and ideally to floss once per day. A fluoride rinse such as ACT should also be used on a daily basis to avoid cavities and permanent marks on your teeth at the end of treatment.
